Several highly anticipated titles are hitting theaters this April, with fans across genres waiting anxiously. There’s a video game blockbuster, a dark horror film, a war drama, a cult action sequel, and even a revenge-driven spy thriller.
Here’s the list of movies that have already earned the most audience votes on Rotten Tomatoes — and all of them seem poised to dominate the spring box office.
Minecraft: The Movie
Who would have thought? Minecraft: The Movie — an adaptation of the cult video game — ended up at the top of the anticipation ranking. Viewers voted with their hearts: 21% of all votes! The story follows four ordinary people who find themselves inside the world of Minecraft and team up with the legendary Steve to find their way back home.
Sinners
A new project from Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan — and it immediately shot to the top of the most-wanted list. But this time it’s not a sports drama or superhero blockbuster, but a horror film with supernatural elements. Jordan plays twin brothers returning to their hometown, where they’re forced to face a darkness better left undisturbed.
20% of the vote — impressive, considering that almost nothing is known about the plot. Viewers can just feel it’s going to be scary and awesome.
The Accountant 2
Ben Affleck returns as the most unconventional math-genius antihero. This time, his character teams up with Jon Bernthal’s to solve a murder case. Early reviews call the sequel "more intense, more violent, and more personal" than the 2016 original.
Warfare
A war drama from Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza, inspired by Mendoza’s personal experience. The story follows American soldiers trapped behind enemy lines. Not an epic, but a brutal look at war, filmed with near-documentary realism.
Death of a Unicorn
The film earned 7% of the vote — meaning it may not be mainstream, but it has a steady following. At the center of the story is a father-daughter duo, played by Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega. And, of course, the titular unicorn they accidentally hit on the road.
