Lionsgate has released the first trailer for The Long Walk, an adaptation of Stephen King's 1979 dystopian horror novel, featuring rising stars Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza) and David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus), alongside Mark Hamill (The Life of Chuck).
Set in a dystopian America, the story revolves around the Long Walk, a brutal competition where 50 teenage boys must walk continuously without rest. Each participant must maintain a pace of over three miles per hour or face elimination. The last boy standing wins a prize of his choice.
Hoffman portrays Raymond Garraty, a young man grieving his father's death at the hands of an oppressive government, while Jonsson plays his new friend Peter McVries. Hamill takes on the role of the Major, who oversees the harrowing event.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, known for his work on The Hunger Games series, the film features a script by JT Mollner. The cast also includes Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, and Judy Greer. Lawrence produced the film through his company about:blank, alongside Roy Lee and Cameron MacConomy.
In addition to The Long Walk, Lionsgate will soon release titles like The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow (May 16) and the John Wick spin-off Ballerina (June 6).
