During a Reddit AMA, Perkins expressed his desire for the necessary budget to bring his vision to life — a film exploring “the collected dreams and nightmares of Darth Vader told as short stories.”
Perkins’ concept promises a horror-infused exploration of Vader’s psyche, which could prove genuinely chilling. It certainly surpasses most, if not all, of the ideas proposed by Kathleen Kennedy over the past decade. His vision appears to centre on a series of short narratives — five or six nightmares featuring Vader — that could culminate in a two-hour anthology, rated R.
This project would not involve Neon, who has enlisted Perkins as their go-to director for low-budget horror, but rather a brief collaboration with Disney and LucasFilm. It’s worth noting that since Kathleen Kennedy took the helm of LucasFilm in 2012, no R-rated Star Wars film has been greenlit.

At this juncture, the Star Wars franchise is struggling, and a solo film centred on Darth Vader remains unrealised. Surely, it’s only a matter of time, as Vader is undoubtedly the most iconic character in the Star Wars universe.
