The new film is produced by the same team behind the 2012 original but features an entirely new cast, including Bella Thorne, Grace Van Dien (Stranger Things), and True Whitaker. The story follows a group of rebellious girls who hit the road for spring break in what’s described as a “bold new ride for Gen Z.” As their trip spirals out of control, they must outrun the chaos they’ve unleashed in a high-stakes crime thriller.
Replacing Harmony Korine as director is Matthew Bright, known for Freeway. The project is being launched by Capture — a joint venture between Capstone Global and Signature Entertainment — which is handling sales at Cannes. Producers Chris Hanley (The Virgin Suicides) and Jordan Gertner are returning from the original film’s team. Capstone Studios is financing the project, with international sales managed by Capture’s Ella Field, Asia Muci, Emilie Barra, and Nathan Wang.
The synopsis hints at a wild ride:
“When their trip explodes out of control, they’re forced to outrun the chaos they’ve created.”

The original Spring Breakers was a box office success, grossing over 30 million world wide on a 5 million budget and becoming a cult phenomenon. An earlier sequel titled Spring Breakers: The Second Coming, involving Christian extremists and with Jonas Åkerlund attached as director and Irvine Welsh writing, was announced in 2014 but was shelved in favor of digital series that never materialized. Now, with Salvation Mountain, fans can expect a fresh take on youth rebellion and chaos with a modern twist.
