Shardlake, the four-part historical mystery based on C.J. Sansom’s novel Dissolution, premiered on Disney+ in May 2024, starring Arthur Hughes as Matthew Shardlake and Sean Bean as Thomas Cromwell. Despite strong performances and an 81% Rotten Tomatoes rating, the series was cancelled in January 2025 due to low viewership.
As a result, there will be no Season 2 — no new episodes, cast, trailer, or filming. The first season was shot in Hungary, Romania, and Austria, with notable locations like Hunedoara and Kreuzenstein castles.
