Ronaldo Expands His Brand: From Football Icon to Media Mogul with UR•Marv
Merging the realms of elite athletics and Hollywood filmmaking, football legend Cristiano Ronaldo and acclaimed director Matthew Vaughn have launched a joint venture film studio.
This independent studio aims to disrupt traditional filmmaking by “embracing innovative technology while respecting tradition.” The partnership has already produced tangible results, with two completed action films financed and produced by Vaughn and Ronaldo through UR•Marv, alongside a third currently in active development, all part of the same series. Details regarding the first film will be revealed shortly.
“This is an exciting chapter for me as I explore new business ventures,” Ronaldo stated.
“Cristiano has crafted stories on the pitch that I could never have imagined, and I look forward to creating inspiring films with him – he’s a real-life superhero,” Vaughn added.
Vaughn, the British filmmaker celebrated for his stylish and dynamic storytelling, has carved a unique niche in the action genre. His directorial portfolio includes titles like Layer Cake (2004), Kick-Ass (2010), and X-Men: First Class (2011), each showcasing his talent for blending sharp wit with visceral action. In 2014, he soared into pop culture prominence with the Kingsman franchise, a sharply tailored mix of espionage satire and operatic violence. Through his production company Marv, Vaughn has created a self-sustaining creative hub, producing not only his own films but also launching spin-offs and cross-platform expansions. In 2024, he directed Argylle, a spy thriller featuring an ensemble cast including Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard. Two more films in the Kingsman franchise are also in development.
Ronaldo, the Portuguese football icon, has successfully expanded his brand beyond the pitch, establishing a formidable presence in media. In October 2023, he became a key investor in Medialivre (formerly Cofina Media), a leading Portuguese media conglomerate that owns prominent outlets such as Correio da Manhã and Record. Demonstrating his digital savvy, Ronaldo launched his YouTube channel, “UR Cristiano,” in August 2024. The channel offers fans an intimate glimpse into his life through various content types, including personal insights and challenges. This strategic move into media ventures underscores Ronaldo’s ambition to solidify his influence in the entertainment industry, ensuring his brand’s longevity well beyond his football career.
