References to 'Twin Peaks' and More Did the Trick: This Detective Series You Won’t Regret Recommending
A show with soul, humor, and nostalgic nods.
In a sea of dark thrillers and slow-burning dramas, sometimes you just want something lighter — but not empty. The 2025 Australian series Good Cop/Bad Cop is exactly that: a crime comedy that knows how to make you laugh without forgetting about plot or character.
A Town Where Nothing Goes to Plan
Eden-Vane is a quiet place where problems used to be solved with a firm word from Sheriff Hank. But after an armed robbery shakes things up, Detective Lou is forced to work with her fugitive brother Henry — and their dynamic is the best part of the series.
A Cast That Delivers
Clancy Brown is perfect as the gruff sheriff, Luke Cook turns Henry into a charismatic oddball, and Leighton Meester finally breaks away from her Gossip Girl image. The chemistry among the cast is on par with Brooklyn Nine-Nine — and that’s saying something.
References, Not Just Easter Eggs
There are no in-your-face nods 'for insiders,' but if you catch a Twin Peaks quote or a De Niro reference, it feels all the more rewarding. The series doesn’t try to be smarter than the viewer, but never falls into silliness either.
Cozy, But Not Cloying
Yes, murders are investigated with a smile here, but the balance between comedy and drama is spot on. Good Cop, Bad Cop is like a warm blanket — it won’t change your life, but it will definitely make your evening better.
