“Of Course, We Love Singing With Each Other,”: Ariana Grande Would Love to Perform at the Oscars With Cynthia Erivo

The stars of Wicked are set to grace the stage on Hollywood's biggest night, even though the musical isn’t in contention for Best Original Song.

Ariana Grande's awards season has kicked off with a Golden Globe nomination, and now all eyes are on the Oscars. She earned her first-ever Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Wicked and is considered a strong contender for the Academy Awards in March. However, since Wicked's iconic musical numbers are ineligible for Best Original Song—typically a highlight during the Oscars telecast—there's intrigue around whether Grande and her co-star Cynthia Erivo would still perform at the event.

"Of course, we love singing with each other," Grande shared with The Hollywood Reporter at the Golden Globes First-Time Nominee Celebration. "I would sing anywhere, anytime, especially in celebration of Wicked. I love her; she’s my sister. Just say the word, and we’ll be there." Erivo is sharing the spotlight as a nominee as well and is garnering Oscar buzz for her portrayal of Elphaba.

Grande attended a Beverly Hills luncheon with her mother, Joan Grande, and caught up with fellow nominee Zoe Saldaña on the carpet. Reflecting on the film's reception, especially with the sequel, Wicked: For Good, set for release next year, Grande shared that hearing positive feedback from her musical idol, Imogen Heap, was particularly meaningful.

"Imogen Heap, who I've admired since I was young, told me she saw it with her daughter and loved it. That was so exciting," Grande explained. Meeting icons like Steven Spielberg also left a significant impression on her: "He was incredibly kind and it was overwhelming and such an honor. To hear something kind about your work from idols in music and film is extraordinarily special."

The Golden Globe event, held ahead of the January 5 ceremony, also drew nominees such as Adam Brody, Pamela Anderson, Kathryn Hahn, Mikey Madison, Hiroyuki Sanada, Cooper Koch, and Kris Bowers. The event was produced by Dick Clark Productions, which is part of a joint venture owned by Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge, the parent company of The Hollywood Reporter.
