Not Just a 'Game of Thrones' Reference: Why Daemon Saw Daenerys in the 'House of the Dragon' Finale
Viewers may have missed a crucial moment in the larger story.
In the Season 2 finale of House of the Dragon, Daemon Targaryen experiences a moment of revelation when he sees Daenerys, even if only from behind. But this isn’t just a piece of fan service for Game of Thrones fans — it’s a pivotal moment that reshapes the story’s deeper meaning.
When Daemon touches the Weirwood tree in Harrenhal, he is granted visions of what’s to come — glimpses of the White Walkers, Bran Stark, and most significantly, Daenerys on the morning after her dragons were born.
This moment confirms what many fans have long speculated: Daenerys, not Jon Snow, was the true Prince That Was Promised.
Aegon the Conqueror’s prophecy, which King Viserys spoke about, once again takes center stage — the Targaryens must unite Westeros to face the coming threat.
For Daemon, this vision is a turning point. He realizes that he was never meant to be the chosen one, but his true purpose is to stand by Rhaenyra and ensure that their family plays its part in fulfilling the prophecy.
