No Mary Jane, No Home, No Strange: The First Details of 'Spider-Man 4' From the Plot to the Release Date

Stills from the movie 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' (2021)

There is still plenty of time before the premiere, which means the creators have not yet revealed all their cards.

After the multiversal chaos of No Way Home, Tom Holland's Peter Parker is finally back — but with a whole new life ahead of him. The fourth installment of one of Marvel's most profitable franchises is called Spider-Man: Brand New Day and will hit theaters next year.

What's official?

At CinemaCon 2024, director Destin Daniel Cretton announced that filming would begin this summer, with a July 31, 2026 premiere. Tom Holland, who is busy with another project, sent a video message:

"It's truly a fresh start. That's all I can say."

The title Brand New Day is a reference to the iconic 2008 comic book arc in which Peter starts anew after a deal with Mephisto. In the film, this may reflect the aftermath of Doctor Strange's spell: no one remembers that Parker is Spider-Man, including Mary Jane (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon).

According to unconfirmed reports, the plot will make Peter truly lonely:

  • Mary Jane, Ned, and all his loved ones will not recognize him;
  • Jonah Jameson will become the mayor of New York and will declare a hunt for Spider-Man;
  • A Deadpool cameo is possible - Ryan Reynolds is allegedly in talks (but this is the most dubious rumor).
  • Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) has also joined the cast. There is a rumor that she will play Jean Grey, but Marvel has not yet commented on this information.

What to expect from the new film?

Cretton promises "an emotional story like we haven't seen before." Without the help of Tony Stark and Doctor Strange, Peter will have to rebuild his life, and, naturally, face new threats.

One thing is for sure: this will be the most adult film about Holland as Spider-Man. After all, now he has no one to rely on but himself.
