After being unexpectedly cut from Gladiator 2, MCU star May Calamawy is now set to shine in New Line Cinema's reimagining of The Mummy. Directed by Lee Cronin, the filmmaker behind Evil Dead Rise, this fresh take on the classic monster film will stand apart from previous Universal Monster franchises. Filming is currently underway in Ireland and Spain, with the film due for release on 17 April 2026.
According to Deadline, known for her portrayal of Layla El-Faouly / Scarlet Scarab in Moon Knight, Calamawy is now part of the upcoming reimagining of the iconic monster film. She is joined by Veronica Falcón, famed for her roles in series such as Why Women Kill and Perry Mason, as well as in films like Jungle Cruise and Imaginary. Egyptian actress May Elghety, whose notable work includes the 2016 Cannes-selected film Clash, also joins the ensemble. They will appear alongside previously announced cast members Jack Reynor and Laia Costa.

Speculation about Calamawy's removed role in Gladiator 2 has circulated, with reports suggesting her outspoken support for Palestine and a cease-fire may have contributed to the decision.
