Who better to host the Capitol’s most brutal spectacle than Cousin Greg’s unpredictable cousin? That’s right — Kieran Culkin is stepping into the glittering, sinister shoes of Caesar Flickerman in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, and it’s the casting twist no one saw coming.
Fresh off his Oscar win for A Real Pain, Culkin is trading Succession’s boardroom chaos for Panem’s blood-soaked arena. According to Variety, this new prequel, helmed by Francis Lawrence and written by Billy Ray, rewinds to the 50th Hunger Games — the legendary Second Quarter Quell where a young Haymitch Abernathy won hearts and barely his life.
Taking over from Stanley Tucci’s iconic portrayal, Culkin’s Caesar promises a darker, edgier twist — still showy, but with that delicious undercurrent of instability he wears so well. And with a cast featuring Joseph Zada, Whitney Peak, McKenna Grace, Ralph Fiennes, and Elle Fanning, the stakes (and wigs) have never been higher.

Set for release on 20 November 2026, Sunrise on the Reaping looks to dig deep into Panem’s cracked foundation — with Culkin grinning at the helm. Let the psychological games begin.
