Living Its Second Life: Aubrey Plaza’s Project Finds New Breath After Sundance—Almost 100% on Rotten Tomatoes

Legion-Media — Aubrey Plaza and still from the movie 'My Old Ass' (2024)

The film takes a distinctive and refreshing approach to the coming-of-age story.

A previously underrated film starring a White Lotus star is gaining new popularity thanks to the Sundance Film Festival. By the way, the film has great ratings on Rotten Tomatoes -99 percent of critics approve of it.

Megan Park's sophomore feature film, My Old Ass, is currently holding an impressive number seven spot on the U.S. charts, according to Prime Video. After premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2024, the film quickly gained attention and was acquired by Amazon for distribution. Upon its Prime Video debut, it skyrocketed to number one in the U.S. within days and continues to climb, proving its growing popularity.

Leading the film is White Lotus and Agatha star Aubrey Plaza, who plays the older version of the protagonist, Elliott.

The film follows a unique and fresh coming-of-age journey. The official synopsis reads:

“In this bold and inventive story, an 18th birthday mushroom trip propels free-spirited Elliott (played by Stella) into an unexpected encounter with her 39-year-old self, portrayed by Aubrey Plaza. As the two versions of Elliott collide, her 'old ass' begins to dole out unsolicited advice and warnings about what the younger version should and shouldn't do. What starts as a psychedelic encounter quickly evolves into a profound, life-altering experience, forcing Elliott to confront the realities of family, love, and the transformative nature of the summer ahead. With humor, heart, and a dose of unexpected wisdom, Elliott must rethink everything she thought she knew about growing up.”
