Less Boring, More Hot Scenes: Netflix Releases the Perfect Replacement to 'The Crown' — and It's Only 6 Episodes Long

Still from the series 'The Leopard' (2025)

Yes, this is a mini-series, and therefore there is no time to build up the plot for too long.

If you still miss The Crown, we have good news for you: Netflix has released a miniseries that hasn’t yet achieved the same ratings as the British royal saga, but has already begun to win over viewers. Meet The Leopard. Only six episodes, but so much passion, intrigue and historical drama!

Aristocrats vs. Kings

The Leopard tells the story of the Corbera family, Sicilian aristocrats whose lives are closely intertwined with the political upheavals of Italy in the late 19th century. If The Crown showed us the British monarchy with its restraint and protocols, then here everything is different: Corbera is a storm of emotions, loud quarrels and candid scenes.

Prince Fabrizio Corbera, the head of the family, is a charismatic but controversial hero who tries to maintain his influence in the era of Italian unification.

The Leopard still

Fact or Fiction?

Unlike The Crown, which is based on real events, The Leopard is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. Although the characters are fictional, the historical context is very real. The bloody unification of Italy, the struggle for power, the decline of the aristocracy, all this creates a tense background for the family drama.

Why is it worth watching?

If The Crown was slow and thoughtful, The Leopard is dynamic, passionate and sexually frank. There is no room for boredom here: each episode is eventful, and the characters are so vivid that it is impossible to drag yourself away. And yes, if you like historical dramas, but would like more action and less ceremony, The Leopard is your choice.

In short, Netflix pleases again: only six episodes, but each is a breath of fresh air after the prim British monarchy.
