Kendrick Lamar collaborated with South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker on a film last year, described as a “slave comedy” set in California. The cast also includes Chloe East and Celeste Octavia. Paramount originally scheduled the theatrical release for July 4, 2025 Independence Day.
Recently, a brief glimpse at a poster on Paramount's website indicated some changes. The film, titled Whitney Springs, has seen its release delayed by a week to July 11 and may potentially head straight to streaming on Paramount+.
Whitney Springs explores themes of history and identity, featuring a young Black man interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum, who uncovers a troubling link to his white girlfriend’s ancestors. Given its provocative premise, Paramount may want to manage the discourse surrounding the film delicately. Brian Robbins, CEO of Paramount, called it:
“One of the funniest and most original scripts we’ve ever read.”
Stone and Parker are also known for their work on The Book of Mormon and other notable projects.
