The long-awaited revival of the cult medical dramedy 'Scrubs' (2001-2010) is getting closer to becoming a reality. According to Deadline, the ABC network and 20th Television, which are subsidiaries of Disney, have officially started production on the reboot, with the involvement of the creator of the original show, Bill Lawrence. Until recently, negotiations were stalled due to Lawrence's contract obligations with Warner Bros TV. After several weeks of negotiations, a compromise was reached. Lawrence will be allowed to work on the new 'Scrubs', but someone else will take over as showrunner.
Having Lawrence on board will allow 20th Television to bring back the original 'Scrubs' stars for the reboot. According to reports, Zach Braff (J.D.), Sarah Chalke (Elliot), Donald Faison (Turk), and John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox) are expected to reprise their roles.
It is unclear at this time if Judy Reyes (Carla) will be involved in the upcoming project. Reports suggest that Reyes' character is included in preliminary plans. In addition to Lawrence and the original cast, other crew members from previous seasons of 'Scrubs' will also be involved in the production. Lawrence has stated that the project will be a hybrid of a sequel and a reboot, featuring familiar characters alongside with new faces.
