‘I Got Crazy Inspired’: Jenna Ortega And The Weeknd Team Up For a Surprising Project

The Weeknd and Jenna Ortega

This collaboration marked a fresh  venture for both of them.

There’s one surprising similarity between The Weeknd’s new album and Jenna Ortega’s latest horror film — and you won’t believe what it is.

It turns out that Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd), Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keoghan star in Hurry Up Tomorrow, a new horror film directed by Trey Edward Shults, known for Waves and It Comes at Night. In an interview with EW , The Weeknd revealed that the film is deeply connected to and heavily inspired by his recently released album of the same name, which was still in demo stages when the film was being made. Throughout the development of the script, both artists collaborated closely, shaping a project where the film and album mutually influenced and informed each other.

“I got crazy inspired with him. There wasn't really music; it wasn't like, 'Here's an album, I want to make a movie. It was more like, ‘Let's make a movie.’ He had some pieces of music, and at that point, it was primarily demos and instrumentals, and he just sent me those, and I got on a crazy writing flow with him," the artist recalls.

The quasi-autobiographical story follows a musician struggling with insomnia, who becomes entangled in an odyssey with a stranger (Ortega) that begins to unravel the very essence of his being, as described in the official synopsis. The cinematic horror film will hit theaters on May 16.
