How the 'Until Dawn' Movie Differs from the Game: What to Expect

Stills from the movie and the game 'Until Dawn'

The highly anticipated Until Dawn movie is set to hit theaters in 2025, bringing the chilling horror experience of the popular video game to the big screen.

Fans of the game can expect a thrilling narrative centered around a group of friends who find themselves trapped in a remote mountain lodge, facing terrifying creatures known as wendigos. While the film draws inspiration from the game, it will introduce new characters and plot twists that differentiate it from its source material.

The age rating for the movie is expected to be R, reflecting its horror elements and intense scenes. As for reviews, early buzz suggests that it captures the game's suspenseful atmosphere while offering a unique take on the story.

Viewers can look forward to intense moments where characters must make life-or-death decisions, reminiscent of gameplay choices in the original title. The film will be available in theaters and on streaming platforms upon release.

As these young adults inch closer to unraveling the mystery of their time-looped imprisonment, Until Dawn increasingly resorts to visual shortcuts. At one point, a character discovers they have been trapped for 13 nights, despite viewers only witnessing four or five nights of death. The film also leans heavily on superficial pop psychology to add depth. Interestingly, part of the marketing strategy for this convoluted film involved encouraging viewers to watch it repeatedly for 12 hours in hopes of winning a cash prize. It’s hard to envision a scenario where such an experience would feel rewarding.
