A year without a new Stephen King adaptation feels incomplete. While several shows and films based on the King of Horror’s works are already in the pipeline, another project is set to join the long list of adaptations. British director Ranjeet S. Marwa is working on a new film inspired by King’s short story Autopsy Room Four, and King has already given his approval for the project.
Autopsy Room Four Is No Stranger to Adaptations
Short stories are often considered less appealing for film adaptations, but Autopsy Room Four will mark its third on-screen version. In 2003, director Stephen Zakman created a short film starring Stephen Furst, and in 2006, the story served as the basis for an episode of the TV series Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King.
A Short Story That Can Terrify — Especially Claustrophobics
The plot of the story revolves around Howard Cottrell, a stockbroker who unexpectedly wakes up in a morgue, completely paralyzed and zipped inside a body bag. Unable to signal to the morgue staff that he’s alive, Howard is struck with terror as he realizes the pathologists are about to begin his autopsy. Though he can’t move or escape the bag, Howard’s mind remains active, forcing him to think of a plan before it’s too late.
