For those expecting a female counterpart to John Wick in the upcoming spinoff From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, it seems you may be in for a surprise. Ana de Armas, who stars as Eve Macarro, has made it clear that her character will represent a completely new world, distinct from the iconic assassin.
In an interview with The Direct, de Armas explained that Eve and John Wick are far more different than many might anticipate.
"We didn't want to do a female John Wick. We wanted to do Eve Macarro, you know? I think she's different. She is and she isn't, right? They're both after revenge. She's coming from a lot of pain.
She suffered a horrible experience when she was a kid witnessing some men killing her dad, and that's always been, you know, with her and she goes on a journey of finding these people and doing justice to her dad and but that pain turns into anger and rage and sometimes, you know, she's really new to this."
Accordin to de Arnmas, John Wick is portrayed as a seasoned professional, whereas Eve is still a newcomer to this world. She has yet to fully grasp the consequences of ignoring the advice of others who urge her to reconsider her pursuit. As she becomes consumed by her emotions, she will inevitably face the risks and troubles that arise from allowing them to control her actions.
Ballerina, the upcoming action thriller from the John Wick universe, is scheduled for release in the United States on June 6, 2025. Directed by Len Wiseman, the film stars Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, a skilled assassin seeking vengeance for her father's death. The storyline unfolds between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4.
