This series draws inspiration from Wang Dulu's novel, part of the Crane Iron Pentalogy. The narrative centers on Shu Lien and Mu Bai, two warriors entangled in a tale of forbidden love, navigating the tension between tradition and modernity while contemplating their future together.
Jason Ning is set to write and executive produce the series, with Ron D. Moore also serving as an executive producer alongside Maril Davis from Tall Ship Productions. Additional executive producers include Johnny Levin, Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment, and representatives from the Wang Dulu Estate. Ying Lou will co-executive produce, while Sony Pictures Television will handle production.
Originally published between 1941 and 1942, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has seen multiple adaptations, most notably Ang Lee's acclaimed 2000 film that grossed over $200 million globally and received ten Academy Award nominations.

Ning's previous works include The Brothers Sun, Mrs. Davis, and Lucifer. Meanwhile, Moore is also developing a series based on the video game God of War for Prime Video.
