'Do Not Go There': 'The Social Network' Producer Stopped Jesse Eisenberg from Crossing Legal Boundaries

Despite everything, the actor still delivered a brilliant performance.

Jesse Eisenberg was prohibited from doing one thing during the filming of The Social Network, something that could have impacted his performance. The producers chose to leave it all in the actor’s hands, believing it was best for him to shape the character on his own.

On The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter Podcast, while discussing his new project A Real Pain, which earned him an Oscar nomination, Eisenberg also reflected on some of his previous work.

The actor revealed that he had tried to meet with Mark Zuckerberg to better understand his role, but received a call from the producer who forbade him from doing so.

“I got a call from a producer saying, ‘Do not go there. He was speaking on behalf of Sony’s lawyers, telling me, ‘You can’t do that for a variety of legal reasons.’”

According to information from various sources, we can assume that the producer probably stopped Jessie Eisenstein from meeting Mark Zuckerberg to avoid legal complications. Meeting Zuckerberg could lead to issues with accuracy, consent, or misrepresentation, which could cause legal trouble. Keeping them separate helped avoid these risks.
