The American animated series Gravity Falls became a hit immediately after its release in 2012. The airing of its two seasons stretched over four years. Back in 2016, the show's creator Alex Hirsch announced that the story of Dipper and Mabel had come to an end.
Nevertheless, rumors of a third season continue to pop up regularly. And just recently, they surfaced once again.
Season 3 of Gravity Falls
The buzz started when a message appeared on fan forums for animated series, claiming that Season 3 was on the way. It announced a 2026 release and promised that the original creative team had returned to work.
According to the rumors, the now-grown Dipper and Mabel would go on adventures not only in the town of Gravity Falls, but also in the Seventh Part of Light and the First Part of Darkness, seeking an artifact that could trap Bill Cipher in stone forever.

Unfortunately for fans, it was soon revealed that the announcement was nothing more than an April Fools' joke.
Why Alex Hirsch Doesn't Want to Continue Gravity Falls
Alex Hirsch has repeatedly emphasized that he always envisioned the series as a complete story told in two seasons. The ending was planned in advance. He is now working on other animated projects. In addition, after a censorship dispute during the original run, Hirsch has been openly critical of working with Disney.
Spin-offs or special episodes are theoretically possible, but Hirsch has called them unlikely. Still, in the summer of last year, Disney representatives mentioned that they were in talks with the creator, trying to convince him to produce a few Gravity Falls shorts that could be combined into a season.
"Never say never," the studio said optimistically.
