Baths, Blood, and Payback: The Nightmare Returns in 'What You Did Last Summer 2'

Stills from the movie 'I Know What You Did Last Summer'

Old faces return, new secrets surface, and the hook strikes.

In the chilling sequel to What You Did Last Summer, the terror returns with an intensity that promises to leave audiences breathless. The new film opens with a scene that initially appears peaceful — Danica (Madelyn Cline) steps into a bath, tossing a blood-red powder into the water. Candlelight flickers around her, creating a calm atmosphere, but this tranquility is shattered by the sudden arrival of horror. Her boyfriend, Orpin’s character, notices strange lights flickering in the pool. A simple "hello" turns into a desperate scream as a sharp hook appears from behind, dragging him away in an instant. The nightmare has begun.

As the story progresses, Danica is left to confront the haunting consequences of her past. She questions whether the horror they are experiencing is karma for the sins they committed. The chilling arrival of a postcard bearing the words "I know what you did last summer" only heightens the dread. Soon, a warning appears on the glass: "You're next." The stakes couldn’t be higher as Danica and her friends are forced to face their darkest secrets and confront the relentless force that’s hunting them down.

As the past catches up with them, they are forced to turn to those who have survived this hellish nightmare before. Enter Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze Jr.), the main characters from the original film. In this new chapter, Julie and Ray come to the aid of this group of terrorized friends, helping them navigate the terror that’s now stalking them once again.

What You Did Last Summer 2 promises to take the franchise to darker, bloodier heights, with suspense and horror that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

The sequel is scheduled for release on July 18, 2025, in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. In Australia, the film is set to premiere a day earlier, on July 17, 2025 .
