Time waits for no one, not even the Dark Knight himself. Robert Pattinson is well aware of this as he prepares to reprise his role as Gotham’s caped crusader in The Batman II. However, with the long-anticipated sequel still in development and set to hit theaters in 2027, the actor can’t help but joke about the wait.
"I ... hope so," Pattinson told his Mickey 17 co-star Naomi Ackie in a conversation for Hero Magazine, when asked if he was excited to play Batman again. "I started out as young Batman, and I’m going to be ... old Batman by the sequel… I’m 38, I’m old."
Pattinson’s Wait for the Cape
Pattinson, who first donned the cape and cowl in The Batman (2022), has been eager to step back into the role. Speaking at the London premiere of Mickey 17, he revealed that filming for The Batman II is expected to begin at the end of 2025 — meaning fans have quite a long wait before the Dark Knight returns.

Despite his quip about aging into "old Batman", Pattinson remains optimistic. "I’m old, but I’m healthier. I think I’ve actually brought my biological age down a bit," he added.
What to Expect in The Batman II
Director Matt Reeves has confirmed that Colin Farrell will reprise his role as the Penguin in the sequel, which will be directly tied to the upcoming HBO series The Penguin. Reeves also hinted at a deeper dive into Gotham’s corruption, expanding on the themes introduced in the first film.
"The seeds of where this goes are all in the first movie, and it expands in a way that will show you aspects of the character you never got to see," Reeves told SFX Magazine.
One thing is certain — fans will need patience. With filming not set to begin until 2025, it will be a long road before audiences can return to Reeves’ dark and gritty Gotham. And by then, as Pattinson puts it, he might just feel like very old Batman.
