The actor has landed the lead role in Uwe Boll’s upcoming vigilante film, The Dark Knight. While the title may bring Christopher Nolan’s 2008 Batman masterpiece to mind, this project has no connection to the superhero franchise.
In The Dark Knight, Hammer will portray Sanders, a man who takes justice into his own hands and becomes a vigilante. His actions quickly gain him both a social media following and public support, but the local police chief views him as a dangerous threat to society. Uwe Boll, speaking to Variety, emphasized the relevance of the story: "The story of The Dark Knight couldn’t be a more current topic, and I’m excited to bring it to life with this excellent cast."
This marks a significant step forward for Hammer, who paused his career in 2021 following accusations of physical and sexual abuse. Recently, he opened up in an interview, reflecting on his time away from the spotlight and his children. "I’m not used to being away from them, I don’t think they’re used to me being away," he shared. "So it feels really nice to be going home to see my kids after an amazing week, and I’m incredibly grateful."
Despite the controversies, Hammer has been gradually rebuilding his career, with several new projects in development, including the western Frontier Crucible. His new role in The Dark Knight signals a bold return to acting, offering audiences a chance to see him in a fresh and unconventional story.
However, the film does not yet have a U.S. release date. The intriguing premise and the actor’s personal journey make it a highly anticipated addition to his filmography.
