Jean-Claude Van Damme is returning to his roots. The iconic action film Kickboxer, which played a major role in his rise to fame, is getting a sequel.
Unfortunately, Kickboxer:Armageddon doesn't have a release date yet, but now that distribution is sorted, the details should be coming soon. Director Dimitri Logothetis, who revived the franchise with Kickboxer:Vengeance in 2016, is back to direct this sequel. He co-wrote the script with Jim McGrath. Filming is set to begin this spring. As the Movienews reports, the story follows Kurt (Moussi) as he hunts down his wife's killers. In the Thai underground fight scene, he meets Cesare (Adkins), a martial arts master who leads a cruel cult, and Kurt soon finds himself fighting for his life.
This isn't the first attempt to bring back the legendary 1980s trilogy. The recent reboot began with Kickboxer:Vengeance in 2016, starring actor and martial artist Alain Moussi as Sloane. The reboot also saw Jean-Claude Van Damme return, but in a new role as Master Durand, who teaches Sloane the ways of the warrior. Interestingly, Van Damme's role in the upcoming adaptation is still unknown.
