After the festival success of The Life of Chuck, director Mike Flanagan is moving forward with yet another major Stephen King adaptation — this time, a limited series version of Carrie for Amazon.
Flanagan, known for Doctor Sleep and The Haunting of Hill House, will direct the eight-episode series, marking a fresh take on King’s debut novel. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Milly Shapiro (Hereditary) is in talks to play the title role, with Samantha Sloyan (Hush, Midnight Mass) possibly playing Carrie’s fanatically religious mother.
Production is expected to begin this summer.

This isn’t Flanagan’s first time working with King’s material — his previous adaptations have earned both critical praise and strong fan followings. Moving the story of Carrie into a serialized format could allow for deeper character exploration and more faithful inclusion of elements from the novel.
Though De Palma’s 1976 film remains iconic, Shapiro’s potential casting is already drawing attention, with many calling it a fitting match given her unsettling breakout role in Hereditary.
Flanagan is also taking over The Exorcist franchise following David Gordon Green’s exit, further cementing his role as a central figure in the future of prestige horror.
