A Spectacle on the Scale of 'Titanic' — or Even Greater: 'House of the Dragon' Season 3 Will Begin with a True Epic

Still from the series 'House of the Dragon'

Fire-breathing predators are finally taking center stage.

The finale of House of the Dragon Season 2 left viewers with mixed feelings. Instead of a powerful conclusion to a grand chapter, audiences received an episode that felt more like an extended calm before the storm. However, it has now been revealed that the showrunners are preparing something truly monumental — Season 3 will kick off with an epic battle.

It seems the creators have taken previous criticisms to heart and are set to deliver one of the most ambitious battles in the history of House of the Dragon — the Battle of the Gullet. This was confirmed by HBO’s head of drama, Francesca Orsi, who promised that the opening episode will exceed expectations:

"I was on set and saw how everything was coming together. It was worth the wait—we have done far more than we could have back then."

House of the Dragon

One of the key figures involved in staging these large-scale battle sequences is Kevin de la Noy, a producer who worked on Titanic. This strongly suggests that the battle will be visually stunning and emotionally intense. This clash is one of the most pivotal battles in the Dance of the Dragons. If Game of Thrones delivered iconic showdowns like the Battle of the Bastards and the Battle of Blackwater, House of the Dragon will find its equivalent in the Battle of the Gullet.

The battle will be a massive naval confrontation between the Velaryon fleet and the forces of the Greens, featuring dragons in the thick of the action. Expect widespread destruction, devastating losses, and a significant emotional shift for key characters. Reports indicate that one of the most anticipated moments will be the death of an important figure — an event that could mark a turning point for Rhaenyra Targaryen.

If the creators manage to capture the full scale of this battle, House of the Dragon Season 3 could become the show's best yet.
