The finale of Season 2 of Amazon’s The Rings of Power felt less like a conclusion and more like a storm on the horizon. Sauron has revealed himself, the Rings have been forged, and Gandalf has (almost) found his true self. Yet behind all the fantasy spectacle, there are still many unanswered questions.
Here are seven threads that are bound to shape future seasons — or at least keep viewers on edge.
Who will receive the Nine Rings?
The Rings intended for Men have already been forged — and all we know is that they’ll eventually turn their bearers into Sauron’s spectral riders. But who are these men? The series avoids giving clear hints, leaving room for surprises. Potential candidates include Ar-Pharazôn, Kemen, and Theo. Some of them may well fall from grace.
What will happen to the Balrog in Khazad-dûm?
The dwarves dug too deep and awakened an ancient evil. Yes, Durin III realized his mistake and even removed the Ring, but that’s unlikely to save his people. The canon suggests the Balrog will survive — the dwarves will not. But in The Rings of Power, events move faster, so we may see a new take on an old tragedy.

Who is the Dark Mage in disguise?
One of the most mysterious figures of Season 2. Logic (and beard) might suggest Saruman, but the series loves to walk the edge rather than follow the path. It could be another Istar, a new antagonist, or even someone who turns out to be an ally. One thing’s clear: his path will soon cross with Gandalf’s.
What lies ahead for Míriel and the fate of Númenor?
The queen is blind, dethroned, and imprisoned on false charges. According to canon, Sauron will destroy Númenor during Ar-Pharazôn’s reign, but the show is taking us through a drama of resistance. Míriel may yet return — her fall could spark rebellion or mark the final glimmer before total darkness.
When will the One Ring finally appear?
This moment is the true point of no return. So far, Sauron wields plenty of power without it. But if the show continues to accelerate events, we might see Mordor’s forge and his first attempt to dominate others by the end of Season 3. Or perhaps the Ring will only emerge in the final season’s last moments.

And what about Galadriel’s husband?
Galadriel has mentioned her fallen husband, but in The Lord of the Rings, he’s alive and well. Their daughter, who later marries Elrond, hasn’t appeared either. That means Galadriel’s family arc is still to come — hopefully not postponed until Season 5.
Where — and how — will Isildur and Elendil reunite?
Father and son are on a slow course toward each other. We know Gondor and great battles lie ahead, but the series is clearly stretching their reunion. Perhaps it will serve as an emotional climax of a future season. But there’s still a lot to happen before they meet again.

The Rings of Power continues to walk a fine line between canon and creative reinvention — and that’s what makes watching so compelling. Even if you already know who Sauron is, you still don’t know what he’ll do next.
That’s why we keep watching the journeys of Galadriel, Gandalf, Durin, and the others — because Middle-earth is once again full of mysteries. And it seems we’re not just here to discover them — we’re here to fall in love with this world all over again.
