While DreamWorks remains tight-lipped about Shrek 5, fans seem to have already cracked the case. From the first glimpses, it looks like the story will revolve around Shrek and Fiona’s grown-up daughter, and her journey will feel strikingly familiar.
The main theory? The ogre’s daughter (who, by the way, is voiced by Zendaya!) is independent, brave, but of course, tired of "frog swamps" and longing for something more. Perhaps a life among humans. Or adventure. Or anything that doesn't involve the smell of garlic and burping.
Sound familiar? Fans quickly recalled countless films where children leave home to find themselves. The Little Mermaid, Ice Age 5, Frozen, even The Lion King — all of them follow a similar conflict:

"Dad, I want to see the world!"
"But we have EVERYTHING here!"
"UGH, YOU JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND!"
Or even:
"Why would you want to leave the swamp? We have EVERYTHING here!" "I don’t have friends, Dad!" "Nonsense, you have me, Mum, and... Donkey!" (Camera slowly zooms in on a delighted Donkey wearing a party hat.)
Of course, the classic formula is bound to follow: the daughter runs away, faces dangers, realises that home isn’t so bad, and returns to a dramatic speech from Shrek.

At the moment, there isn’t much confirmed information, but the fan theories are alarmingly plausible. Let’s just hope DreamWorks remembers what made the original films so beloved and doesn’t turn Shrek 5 into a cheesy teen drama. Or at the very least, sneak in a reference to Smash Mouth — because, let's face it, it wouldn’t be Shrek without it.
