As Belloni notes in the podcast, if the £400 million figure holds true, then Final Reckoning would need to gross £1 billion worldwide to break even — a tall order, considering that the highest-grossing Mission: Impossible film, 2018’s Fallout, earned £791 million globally.
In fact, without adjusting for inflation, Final Reckoning is poised to become the fourth most expensive film ever made, surpassed only by The Force Awakens (£447 million), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (£432 million), and Rise of Skywalker (£379 million).
Production on Final Reckoning resumed in March 2024 after the SAG-AFTRA strikes halted filming in mid-July 2023. The film has faced numerous delays, including reshoots, rewrites, minor on-set injuries, and a reported malfunction while filming on a £25 million submarine.

Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One released in 2023, resulted in a loss of over £200 million for Paramount during its theatrical run and ended on a cliffhanger. Initially, the plan was for two films to serve as a send-off for Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, but after its release, the title was changed to exclude Part Two.
