'Dexter: Original Sin' Has More Plot Holes Than Swiss Cheese

Still from the series 'Dexter'

Fans of the original show clearly didn't dream of a sequel like this.

Dedicated Dexter fans are unlikely to be pleased with the new spin-off, Original Sin. The creators made several gross plot errors and contradictions that break the logic of the original show. Here are five of the most notable of them.

The character was replaced — they forgot to explain

In the original series, Harry's partner was Davey Sanchez, and his death played an important role in the formation of Dexter. However, in Original Sin, Sanchez was replaced with Bobby Watt. It is unclear whether the writers will repeat his fate, but such a replacement breaks an important plot line.

Where is Captain Matthews?

In Original Sin, Captain Aaron Spencer is presented as the chief of the Miami police. However, according to the chronology, it is Thomas Matthews who should hold this position. In the original, he had a long-standing friendship with Harry, but in the spin-off, they seem to be strangers.

Dexter still

Fathers and Sons

In Original Sin, Dexter and his father work together as police officers. However, in the original timeline, Harry died while Dexter was in college. This breaks all logic, since in the original series, Dexter knew nothing about his father's previous career.

Double Retcon

The showrunners of Dexter: New Blood suddenly decided that Dexter uses a drug instead of the sedative M99 to "relax" his victims. Now Original Sin returns to M99 again, making the retcon of New Blood pointless. As a result, the detective work in New Blood loses all logic.

Trophyless Hunting

In the spin-off, Harry directly tells Dexter that he can't keep trophies — it violates the Code. However, in the original series, Dexter collects slides of blood, considering it an important part of his identity. This contradiction makes his actions even less logical.
